Marta Kovalova

Marta Kovalova, from the Ukraine, started playing the violin when she was five. She studied in Ivano-Frankivsk and at the National University for the Arts in Kharkiv and played in the Slobozhanske Academy Youth Orchestra and Kharkiv Philharmonie. She gained her masters in 2020 at the University for Music Mainz and was awarded a Lions Club Prize. She spent time with the State Philharmonic Orchestra in Mainz. Her solo project UKRA received backing from Hessen's Culture Foundation, the GVL-Foundation and German Orchestra Foundation's #MusikerZukunft Foundation. Marta Kovalova also nurtures Ukrainian folk music with her own arrangements and compositions for violin, voice and electronics. She joined the Frankfurt Opern and Museumsorchester in the 2024/25 season.
