Giovanni Gandolfo was born in Enna, Sicily. He has been playing the flute / piccolo with the Frankfurt Opern- und Museumsorchester since 2019, where he held the post of deputy solo flute for a year. He played the flute / piccolo with the Staatskapelle in Dresden from 2016 - 18. Over the years he has played with the Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala (Milan), the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Rome), the NDR Elbphilharmonie-Orchester, WDR Sinfonieorchester, Staatskapelle Dresden and the Bamberg Symphony and was invited to play at the Bayreuth Festival. Giovanni Gandolfo has worked under many of world's leading conductors, including Claudia Abbado, Thomas Adès, Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Semyon Bychkov, Ottavio Dantone, Gustavo Dudamel, Christoph Eschenbach, Daniele Gatti, Valery Gergiev, Alan Gilbert, Daniel Harding, Thomas Hengelbrock, Manfred Honeck, Fabio Luisi, Zubin Mehta, Antonio Pappano, Kirill Petrenko, Georges Prêtre, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Christian Thielemann and Myung Whun Chung. He holds regular masterclasses and teaches at international universities.
