This Stuttgart born baritone with Hungarian roots began his music career with the Stuttgart Hymnus Choristers before studying singing and conducting with Rudolf Piernay, Irwin Gage and Klaus Arp in Mannheim and Saarbrücken. He built up an interesting repertoire while a member of the ensembles at the Komische Oper Berlin and Oper Frankfurt, where he recently sang his first Beckmessers - a role he sings at the 2025 Bayreuth Festival - in a new production of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, where you can now hear him as Šiškov in this revival of Janáček's From the House of the Dead. Recent roles at leading houses around the world included: Wolfram im Tannhäuser (Bayreuth), Hans Heiling at the Theater an der Wien, Stolzius in Zimmermann's Die Soldaten, Amfortas (Parsifal) at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde) in Baden-Baden and Berlin under Simon Rattle, Dallapiccola’s Il Prigioniero and Alberich (Der Ring des Nibelungen) at the Vienna State Opera. This season roles include Nekrotzar in Ligeti's Le Grand Macabre at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and Morone in Pfitzner's Palestrina at the Vienna State Opera under Christian Thielemann. He also enjoys a busy concert career, appearing regularly with leading orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Concertgebouworkest, the Bavarian Radio Symphonieorchester and at various festivals including those in Schleswig-Holstein and Rheingau and the Salzburg and Tanglewood festivals. Lieder and chamber music is close to his heart: particularly during corona shut downs – including Lieder by Wolf and Strauss on stage at the Bayerische Staatsoper, which were followed by Frank Martin’s Jedermann monologues.
