German-Romanian baritone Konstantin Krimmel was born in Ulm and studied with Teru Yoshihara in Stuttgart. This winner of many Lieder competitions has appeared in recital at places including the Konzerthaus and Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Heidelberg Spring Festival, the Schubertiades in Vilabertran and Schwarzenberg, the Wigmore Hall in London, Oxford Lieder Festival, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Tokyo Spring Festival. He is much in demand for oratorio work and has appeared with conductors including Philippe Herreweghe, Peter Dijkstra and Raphaël Pichon. His repertoire includes Zoroastro (Orlando), Roberto / Nardo (La finta giardiniera) and Belcore (L’elisir d’amore). He joined the ensemble at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich in 2021/22, where roles have included the title roles in Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni, Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Harlekin (Ariadne auf Naxos) and Yoshio and Matthias in Georg Friedrich Haas' Hanjo andThomas. He sang Olivier in Capriccio at the 2024 Salzburg Festival and his recording of Schubert's Die schöne Müllerin has just won the Gramophone Classical Music Award, following on from the German recording critics Prize in 2023. He was voted »Best Up and Coming Artist« at the 2023 Oper!Awards, »Best Up and Coming Singer« by Opernwelt magazine and won the Opus Klassik prize in 2024. Now he's back at Oper Frankfurt, where he gave a triumphant recital in 2022.
