The baritone Dietrich Volle was a member of the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt for 15 years, returning last season for roles in, all new productions, a Weill / Orff The Zsar wants his Photograph Taken / The Clever Woman double bill, Offenbach's The Bandits and Zemlinsky's George the Dreamer, and in 2024/25 to repeat his roles in Schostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mtzensk and Tchaikovsky's The Sorceress.  In the summer of 2023 he enjoyed great success with Peter Maxwell Davies's Eight Songs for a Mad King at the Staatstheater in Mainz. Recent roles in Frankfurt were a Soldier in Salome, Kromow in The Merry Widow and Fabrizio Vingradito in The Thieving Magpie. His many other roles for the company included Mr. Gobineau in Menotti's The Medium, a role in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites, the Bitter Prisoner in Janáček's From the House of the Dead, Dr. Vigelius (Schreker's The Elusive Sound), Alkalde (La forza del destino), the Dottore (Trojahn's Enrico) and Doctor in Barber's Vanessa,  Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro), the Speaker (Die Zauberflöte), Dr. Kolenatý (The Makropoulos Case), Music Teacher (Ariadne auf Naxos), Spencer Coyle (Britten's Owen Wingrave), Faninal (Der Rosenkavalier), Old Man (Reimann's Ghost Sonata), Donner (Das Rheingold), Manz (Delius' Village Romeo and Juliet), a Soldier (Salome) and Ctésippe (Fauré's Pénélope). Many of his performances have been caputured, live, on recordings by OehmsClassics. He also took part in the first ever performances in Frankfurt of Eötvös’ Angels in America (Roy Cohn) and the world premiere of Glanert's Caligula (Merea / Lepidus) – which was commissioned by Oper Frankfurt. He sang the title role in Berg's Wozzeck at the Mainfranken Theater in Würzburg in 2013, where he also took part in the world premiere of Michael Obst's Die andere Seite / The Other side.
