Christina Nilsson

Soprano Christina Nilsson is back at Oper Frankfurt where she appeared for the first time as Primadonna / Ariadne (role debut) in Ariadne auf Naxos, a role she then sang at the Opéra de Lausanne, to sing Elisabeth in this new production of Tannhäuser. Future plans inclulde her debuts at the Met in New York and Bayreuth, singing the title role in Aida, and Freia (Rheingold) and 3rd Norn (Götterdämmerung). This season she sang Chrysothemis in Elektra at the Royal Opera in Stockholm and Aida at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Other recent engagements have included Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus) at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Aida at Covent Garden and the Semperoper in Dresden and Elsa (Lohengrin) at Theater Dortmund, a role she sang at the 2021 Tirol Festival in Erl. She made her international breakthrough singing Aida at the Royal Opera in Stockholm in 2017/18, which was followed by many roles including Tosca, Ariadne and the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro). Recent concert work has included Verdi's Requiem with the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra under Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Beethoven 9 with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra under Alan Gilbert and Bruckner's Te Deum with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under Nathalie Stutzmann. She also sang Strauss' Four Last Songs at the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy. She won the 2019 Birgit Nilsson Prize and the 2016 Wilhelm Stenhammar and 2017 Renata Tebaldi competitions. She studied at the University College of Opera in Stockholm, graduating in 2017.
