Paula Murrihy was a member of the Ensemble from 2009 – 2017. She returned in 2023 for a recital and to sing Dejanira in this Barrie Kosky production of Handel's Hercules, which she sings again here this season and recently thrilled audiences with at the Komische Oper in Berlin. Other triumphs in Frankfurt included Fauré's Pénélope, Carmen, Dido and L'Orontea (get the CD! OehmsClassics), Octavian (Der Rosenkavalier) Dorabella (Così fan tutte), the Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel) and Polinessa (Radamisto). Recent engagements have included Prince Charming in Cendrillon at the Opéra de Paris, Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier at Santa Fe Opera, the Composer in Katie Mitchell's production of Ariadne auf Naxos at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the title role in Ariodante in a concert performance at Covent Garden conducted by Christian Curnyn, which was broadcast live, Orfeo in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice with Opera North under Laurence Cummings and Stéphano in Roméo et Juliette at the Met in New York. She also appeared in recital with Malcolm Martineau in the Wigmore Hall and her first solo album, I will walk with my love (Orchid Classics), with Tanya Blaich, was released in 2020. Future plans include Béatrice (concert performances of Béatrice et Bénédict) at Irish National Opera in Dublin, the Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos) at the Théâtre des Arts in Rouen, a recital in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Sara in Mysliveček's Abramo ed Isacco (in concert) at the Rudolfinum in Prague and the Fox (Cunning Little Vixen) at the Opéra national de Paris.
