Martin Mitterrutzner was taught by Brigitte Fassbaender and was a member of the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt from 2011 – 2019 after spending time at the Tirol Landestheater. Now he's back in Frankfurt, where he recently returned for Flamand and Don Ottavio in Strauss' Capriccio and Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, to sing the Duke in this revival of Rigoletto. Roles for the company in the past inclued Fenton in Falstaff,  Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Elvino in La sonnambula, Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola and he appeared in recital, Die schöne Müllerin, a recording of which, with the guitarist Martin Wesely, has been released. He recently sang Tamino in Die Zauberflöte at the Semper Oper in Dresden and Volksoper in Vienna and other engagements have taken him to places including the Theater an der Wien, the Aix-en-Provence and Salzburg festivals, Zurich Opera, the Bayerische Staatsoper and he regularly sings Mozart roles at the Semperoper in Dresden, where he also sang Váňa Kudrjaš in Katja Kabanova. He sang Ferrando in Così fan tutte at the Hamburg State Opera in 2024. Other highlights during the 2024/25 season include performances of Der Zigeunerbaron and Wiener Blut as part of celebrations in Vienna of Johann Strauss birth 200 years ago, a concert performance of Wozzeck under Alan Gilbert and he's been invited by the Quatar Symphony Orchestra to take part in their New Year's Concert in Doha. He also enjoys a busy concert career and has appeared with the Bamberg Symphony, the Bavarian Radio and Montreal symphony orchestras, Concentus Musicus and the Cleveland Orchestra. He gives regular recitals with the pianist Gerold Huber, at places including Oper Frankfurt, the Philharmonie in Cologne, the Heidelberg Spring Festival, the Wigmore Hall in London and Schubertiade in Schwarzenberg.
