Franco Vassallo, one of the world’s leading Italian baritones, is back in Frankfurt, where he appeared for the first time as Don Carlos in concert performances of Ernani, to sing the title role again in Rigoletto. Particularly sought-after for Verdi roles, he has made an international name for himself, appearing at theatres including La Scala Milan, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Dresden and Hamburg state operas, in Madrid, Zurich, Amsterdam, Washington and Los Angeles. Current engagements include Jago (Otello) im Seoul Arts Center, Michele at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Miller in Luisa Miller (in concert) at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Renato (Un ballo in maschera) it the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Conte di Luna (Il trovatore) and the title role in Falstaff at the Festival Verdi in Parma and Don Carlo (Ernani) at the Bregenz Festival. Other engagements in recent seasons have included Barnaba (La Gioconda) at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels, Rodrigo in Don Carlo at the Salzburg Easter Festival, the Duke of Nottingham in Roberto Devereux at the Staatstheater in Karlruhe and Amonasro in Aida at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari.
