Otakar Souček joined Oper Frankfurt’s Chorus in 2018 and you can hear him as a Young Prisoner in this revival of Janáček’s From the House of the Dead. He started learning to sing at the Jan Neruda Gymnasium and then Prague’s Music School, with Magda Bělohlávková. After finishing school he studied architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague and Brno University, gaining his bachelors in singing at the JAMU in Brno with Zdeněk Šmukar. During this time he also sang Vasek and the Ringmaster in Smetana’s The Bartered Bride and the Parson in Janáček’s Cunning Little Vixen. Otakar Souček gained his masters at the HAMU in Prague under the guidance of Prof Magdaléna Hajóssyová, during which time he sang roles including Kockarev (Martinů’s Marriage) and Ferrando (Così fan tutte). He spent time on an Erasmus programme at the Folkwang University of Arts in Essen in Prof Wolfgang Millgramm’s class and took part in summer singing courses in Austria run by Prof Margit Klaushofer from Vienna's University for Music and the tenor Ramón Vargas. Otakar Souček continues to work as a freelance architect.
