The Korean tenor Leo Jaewon Jung is back at Oper Frankfurt, where he took part in a new production of Rossini’s La gazzetta, to sing a Very Old Prisoner in From the House of the Dead. He was a member of the Pfalztheater’s opera studio in Kaiserslautern, where he took part in various concerts and sang roles in Die Zauberflöte, Die lustige Witwe, Don Carlo and Macbeth and Nemorino in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. He was awarded a scholarship by Bayreuth’s Richard Wagner Verband in 2019 and sang Tamino in Dresden’s Residenz Concerts from 2017 - 2018. He won prizes at renowned competitions including: 2nd Prize and the special prize at the 2024 International »Gabriela Benačková« Singing Competition, 3rd Prize at the 34th International »Opera at Florham« Singing Competition in the USA and 1st Prize at the 2022 »Grandi Voci« competition in Salzburg. He made his debut at Schloss Weikersheim in the summer of 2021, singing Don José in Carmen and in Maastricht, singing the title role in Les Contes d’Hoffmann in March 2022. Leo Jaewon Jung gained his bachelors in singing in 2016 at Seoul National University and his masters at the State University for Music & the Performing Arts in Mannheim, under the guidance of Prof Snežana Stamenković and Prof Burkhard Fritz.
