Stephan Bootz is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time, as the Little Prisoner, Cekunov / Blacksmith in this revival of Janáček’s From the House of the Dead. Born in Mainz he joined the Ensemble at the Staatstheater there in 2014, where you can hear his this season in revivals of Carmen and Der Rosenkavalier and new produtions of Turandot and The Cunning Little Vixen. Guest engagments during 2024/25 include Truffaldin in Ariadne auf Naxos at Hamburg State Opera and a return to the Staatsoper in Stuttgart for Bernhard Lang’s Dora. He joined Zurich Opera’s International Opera Studio while still a student before spending time as a member of the ensembles at the Stadttheaters in Gießen and Darmstadt. He enjoys singing contemporary music as well as roles such as Figaro, the Grand Inquisitor (Don Carlo) and Pimen (Boris Godunov) and sang many Wagner roles at the Landestheater in Niederbayern: his triumphal King Marke (Tristan und Isolde) was followed by Daland (The Flying Dutchman) and his first very successful Wotans and Wanderers in the Ring des Nibelungen.
