Maria Bengtsson is regarded internationally as being one of the most extraordinary performers, and in possession of one of the most beautiful lyric soprano voices, in the world. Now this Swedish artist's back in Frankfurt, where she is a regular guest and sang Madeleine in Capriccio last season, gave a recital and sang her first Blanches in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmelités in the summer of 2021, to repeat her wonderful portrayal of the title role in Daphne. Other roles with which she has thrilled audiences here include Strauss’ Arabella, Marschallin and Flotow's Martha (available on CD - OehmsClassics). This season you can hear her as the Marschallin at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Christiane in Strauss' Intermezzo at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro at the Munich Opera Festival. She also sings Berg's 7 Early Songs in Göteborg and Beethoven 9 in Potsdam. Other roles which she has sung at leading opera houses and festivals in recent seasons have included Donna Anna in Don Giovanni , Fiordiligi in Cosí fan tutte, Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes and Rusalka.  After going under contract to the Volksoper in Vienna she was a member of the ensemble at the Komische Oper Berlin from 2002 - 2007, where she worked on important roles with Kirill Petrenko. She has also appeared in theatres including La Scala Milan, the Vienna, Berlin, Munich and Hamburg state operas, the Opéra National in Paris, Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Teatro Real in Madrid, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Bolschoi in Moscow and the Salzburg and Aix-en-Provence festivals. Much sought-after for concert work and recitals, she has appeared at places including the Carinthian Summer Festival, Berlin Festival, the Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig and Alte Oper in Frankfurt.
