Wolfgang Gerold
Wolfgang Gerold is appearing at Oper Frankfurt for the first time, as Louis XV in this production of Adolphe Adams’ Le Postillon de Lonjumeau. After studying pharmacy and gaining his doctorate, he joined the Austrian Chamber of Pharmacists’ Board and led the Medical Economics and Pharmacy Department at the invitation of the Vienna Hospital Association. He took up singing later in life, attending masterclasses run by people including Kämmersingers Hilde Zadek, Sona Gazharian and Heinz Holecek. He has sung roles in operettas including Falke in Die Fledermaus and Baron Zeta in The Merry Widow and been acting roles in Bad Ischl since 2018, including Striese in The Rape of the Sabines, Theodor in The Incorruptible and, in 2024, Fortunatus Wurzel in The Farmer as Millionaire. Wolfgang Gerold is also Artistic Director of the ‘LehárTHEATERostern’ festival in Bad Ischl. He nurtures the work of his father Hans Gerold, who compositions include chansons and Viennese songs. In May 2025 he continues his production of Mia bella signorina, in which he also plays the leading role, at the MuTh theatre in Vienna.
