Franz Mayer, who was awarded the title of Kammersänger in 1993, was a member of the the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt from 1977 until the end of the 2015/16 season. He returned recently to sing roles including the Sacristan in Tosca, a Night Watchman in our new Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Le Bailli in Werther and Oreste's Minder in Elektra. Other recent roles for the company have included the Judge in Flotow's Martha (get the CD! OehmsClassics), Anselmo (La gazzetta), Benoît (La Bohème ), a Notary  (Der Rosenkavalier), Lakai (Ariadne auf Naxos), Pritschitsch (The Merry Widow) and the Senior Councillor, a role he also sang  at the 2021 Tirol Summer Festival in Erl in Königskinder - Get the CD! - OehmsClassics). This Austrian born bass-baritone's repertoire includes Mozart's Figaro, Leporello/Masetto (Don Giovanni), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) and Don Alfonso (Così van tutte), Fritz Kothner (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) and Angelo (Wagner's Das Liebesverbot/The Ban on Love available on CD - OehmsClassics), Uncle Bonze (Madame Butterfly), Monterone (Rigoletto), Jack Wallace  (La Fanciulla del West), Peter the Broom Maker (Father) (Hänsel und Gretel), the Archbishop of Prague (Pfitzner's Palestrina, conducted by Kirill Petrenko, get the CD - OehmsClassics) and Unto (Sallinen's Kullervo). Franz Mayer is passionate about concert work and has sung works by Bach, Handel, Mahler, Mozart and Mendelssohn in Vienna, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Munich, twice in South America and in Japan.
