Elena Manistina

Elena Manistina is back at Oper Frankfurt, where she appeared for the first time in 2006 singing Lyubasha in Rimsky-Korsakov'sThe Tsar's Bride, returning for Martha in Tchaikovsky's Iolanta, to sing the Princess in the first revival of this production of Tchaikovsky's Sorceress, a role she sang during the opening run of performances in 2022. She studied in her home town of Saratov and the Conservatoire in Moscow and won many prizes and competitions including the 2002 Operalia and reached the finals of the 2003 Cardiff Singer of the World. She made her operatic debut as Marfa in Mussorgsky's Khovanschina in Saratow, Russia before singing Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera) at Covent Garden, the Opéra national de Bordeaux, Oviedo Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opéra national du Rhin, Opéra Bastille and Teatro Municipal di Santiago. She's a regular guest at leading opera houses, singing roles including Azucena (Il trovatore) at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Washington Opera, the Opéra National de Paris, Opéra Bastille, Opéra National de Bordeaux and Opéra de Marseille. Her broad and varied repertoire includes Marina (Boris Godunov) which she sang at Covent Garden and Ježibaba (Rusalka), She has worked with conductors including Michael Tilson Thomas, Edward Gardner, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Daniel Oren in concert with, amongst others, the St. Louis, City of Birmingham, Boston, San Francisco and Royal Scottish symphony orchestras.
