Estonian soprano Aile Asszonyi is back in Frankfurt, where she made her debut singing the title role in a new production of Elektra, which she sang again in a revival last season, to sing the title role (role debut) in Shostakovitch's Lady Macbeth of Mtzensk. She has also sung Elektra at Oper Bonn, the Theater in Erfurt and the Tirol Landestheater in Innsbruck. After enjoying great success with Aida, Mimì and Manon Lescaut she started singing more dramatic roles, including the Mother in Dallapiccola‘s Il prigioniero at Oper Graz, Prothoe in Schoeck’s Penthesilea at Oper Bonn, Beethoven’s Leonore, Elisabeth & Venus in Wagner’s Tannhäuser at Estonian National Opera in Tallinn, Abigaille at Theater Regensburg, the world premiere of Gubaidulina’s Über Liebe und Hass / About Love and Hate in Tallinn and at the Olavsdagene Festival in Trondheim, Fata Morgana in Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges at Theater Koblenz and Isolde and Turandot at the Staatstheater in Saarbrücken, Senta at De Nederlandse Reiseoper and Elektra a Oper Bonn and in Erfurt. She has worked with many leading conductors and directors including Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi and Dirk Kaftan, Michiel Dijkema, Stefan Herheim, David Pountney, Tobias Kratzer and Peter Konwitschny. Aile Asszonyi studied at the Music Academy in Tallinn, Opera Studio Amsterdam and the Accademia Carlo Bergonzi in Busseto. She won the »Estonian Theater Award« several times and enjoyed great success at competitions including the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels, where she won the »Prix des Donateurs«. She recently enjoyed success singing Gutrune (Götterdämmerung) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, in Bayreuth and the Staatstheater in Oldenburg, and Isolde and Brünnhilde for the first time, at the Staatstheater in Saarland. She recently sang Brünnhilde again, at the Opéra Royal de Versailles.
