Spanish-American Daniel Luis de Vicente, one of the most sought-after baritones of his generaion, is back in Frankfurt, where he sang for the first time in 2021/22, stepping in at short notice to sing Rigoletto, a role he's now singing for you again this season, which was followed by Scarpia in Tosca,  a role he sang at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf. Recent highlights have included his debuts at the Vienna State Opera, in the title role in Simon Boccangra and the Bayerische Staastoper in Munich, singing Michele and Gianni Schicchi (Il trittico). He works regularly with leading conductors including Antonio Pappano, Lorenzo Viotti, Marco Armiliato, Julia Jones and Carlo Montanaro. During the 2023/2024 season he sang his first Rigolettos in Italy, at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo, a role he enjoyed great success with at places including the Bregenz Festival, in Leipzig, Klagenfurt, Maribor, Hannover, Prague, Vienna and, this season, for Welsh National Opera. He recently sang Michele and Gianni Schicchi in Barrie Kosky's Il trittico at De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, the title role in Nabucco (role debut) in Bratislava (2024) and Barnaba (La Gioconda) at the Salzburg Easter Festival. Other engagements have included Scarpia at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, Giorgio Germont (La traviata) in Prague, Bratislava, Kaiserslautern and Innsbruck, where he was awarded the 2020 Austrian Music Theatre Prize for his portrayal of Paolo Albiani in Simon Boccanegra. He has also appeared at the Staatstheater in Wiesbaden, the Aalto Musiktheater Essen, Jerusalem Opera and the Staatstheater in Mainz.
