Katharina Schlipf is back at Oper Frankfurt, where she worked for the first time last season on the first new Aida in Frankfurt for many years, directed by Lydia Steier, for this new production of Berg's Lulu, directed by Nadja Loschky, with whom she works regularly at her Theatre in Bielefeld, on projects including Egmont and the world premiere of Night's very Dark, Rigoletto!  She and Lydia Steier have teamed up often, staging operas including Spontini's La vestale at the Opera national de Paris, Die Frau ohne Schatten at the Baden-Baden Festival and Die Zauberflöte for the Salzburg Festival; these were preceded by, amongst others, Handel's Saul at the Staatstheater in Oldenburg, Franz von Suppe's Fatinitza at the Staatstheater in Mainz, Ariadne auf Naxos in concert at Theater Bern, Albert Herring in Oldenburg, Giulio Cesare at the Komische Oper Berlin and The Rake’s Progress at Theater Basel. She and the choreographer Demis Volpi have worked regularly together since 2010. She designed set and costumes for Nutcracker at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Salome, after Oscar Wilde, and Krabat, after Otfried Preußler, at Stuttgart Ballet, Volpi's production of Jommelli's Fetonte at the Schwetzingen Winter Festival and Death in Venice at the Staatsoper in Stuttgart. Death in Venice was nominated for »Best New Production« at the 2018 International Opera Awards. Katharina Schlipf was awarded the Rotary Culture Prize by her hometown of Rottweil.
