Barrie Kosky's unforgettable productions at Oper Frankfurt were Carmen (which went to Covent Garden in London in 2018), a Dido and Aeneas / Bluebeard's Castle double bill, which went on tour to the Edinburgh International Festival,  an extraordinary Salome, which was seen in Rome this year, and this wonderful staging of Handel's Hercules. This winner of the 2014 International Opera »Best Director« Award was Intendant of the Schauspiel in Vienna from 2001 - 2006 and Artistic Director of the Adelaide Festival in Australia in 1996. He was voted 2016 »Director of the Year« by Opernwelt magazine and was Intendant and Chief Director of the Komische Oper Berlin from 2012 - 2022, which won many accolades under his leadership, and where he continues to direct. Productions there included Die Zauberflöte (with the British theatre group »1927«), Abraham's Ball im Savoy, Bock's Anatevka, Henze's The Bassarids,  Eugene Onegin, Candide, Die schöne Helena, West Side Story, Moses and Aaron, Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Die Perlen der Cleopatra, Der Jahrmarkt von Sorotschinzi, Castor et Pollux, Pelléas et Mélisande and La Cage aux folles. Highlights in recent seasons have included Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the 2017 Bayreuth Festival (»Production of the Year 2017/18«, Opernwelt), Der Rosenkavalier and The Fiery Angel at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Orphée aux enfers at the Salzburg Festival, Les Boréades at Opéra de Dijon, Die Gezeichneten and Macbeth at Zurich Opera, The Nose at Covent Garden, which then went to Berlin, Les Boréades at the Opéra de Dijon, Prince Igor at the Opéra National in Paris and Saul at the Glyndebourne Festival (International Opera Award 2015). His production of Castor und Pollux was seen in London, Dijon and Berlin and received a Laurence Olivier Award.
