Claus Guth
Director
The Director Claus Guth is much sought-after by leading international opera companies. His wonderful productions in Frankfurt, where he was born, have included Daphne (2010) and Pelléas et Mélisande (2012) - which both won best production of the year FAUST Theater Prizes - Der Rosenkavalier (don't miss the revival April! 2025), Il trittico, Un ballo in maschera, The Merry Widow, this production of Rodelinda (a co-production with the Teatro Real in Madrid), the Dialogue of the Carmelites and Elektra. Recent projects have included Turandot at the Vienna State Opera, Khovanschina at the Staatsoper in Berlin and the world premieres of Pascal Dusapin's Il viaggio, Dante (2023) and Jean-Philippe Rameau's Samson (2024) at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. He also staged Doppelgänger at Park Avenue Armory Hall in New York. Other recent productions have included Handel's Semele and Georg Friedrich Haas' Bluthaus at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Don Carlo at theTeatro San Carlo in Naples, Handel's Orlando at the Theater an der Wien and Jenůfa at Covent Garden. Recent world premieres have included Chaya Czernowin's Heart Chamber at the Deutsch Oper and Beat Furrer's Violet Snow at the Staatsoper in Berlin. Other places where he has enjoyed great success during his career have included Bayreuth, the Salzburg Festival, whose Guth Da Ponte cycle has been performed in other places, the Dresden and Hamburg state Opera, Zurich Opera, La Scala Milan and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. During the 2024/25 season he returns to the Bayerische Staatsoper for Die Liebe der Danae and the Teatro Real in Madrid for Mitridate, Re di Ponto, and makes his debut at the Met in New York, with Salome. Claus Guth studied philosophy, German and musicology in Munich and stage direction at the Bavarian August Everding Theatre Academy.
