Sibylle Wallum
Costume Designer
Sibylle Wallum studied Design for Performance at the Central St Martins College of Art and Design in London before assisting Frida Parmeggiani, on productions including Robert Wilson's St John Passion at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. She worked as a costume designer's assistent at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg from 2011 – 2013 before embarking on a career as a freelance costume designer, working with directors including Anna Bergmann, Jan Philipp Gloger, Anne Lenk and Jette Steckel. Now she's back in Frankfurt, where she worked with David Hermann on a Schönberg evening Waiting for Today, for Magnard's Guercœur and they stage a new Don Giovanni later this season at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich. She has worked closely with Anne Lenk for many years, on works including Der Menschenfeind / Enemy of the People and Maria Stuart at the Deutsche Theater, which were invited to the 2020 and 2021 Theatertreffen (a great honour). She has also worked at the Volksoper and Burgtheater in Vienna, the Residenztheater in Munich, Thalia Theater in Hamburg, Staatsschauspiel Dresden, the Staatstheaters in Nürnberg and Karlsruhe, Staatschauspiel Hannover, Stadttheater Bern and Theater Bonn. She was voted Costume Designer of the Year 2021 for Maria Stuart by Theater Heute magazine and nominated for a 2022 DER FAUST Theatre Prize for Pippi Langstrumpf. She's a member of the RING AWARD jury in Graz.
